Or stay onsite and enjoy more time at the tropical-style pool, where kids can spend hours splashing around (please note: the pool is open to the public and may require a small entry fee).

What it’s really like
Südsee-Camp in Wietzendorf, Germany, is one of those campsites that’s almost like a full-on holiday village rather than a traditional campsite. It’s huge, very well known in Germany, and clearly designed as a full entertainment resort for families with kids. The setting in the Lüneburg Heath is nice and green, with woodland and a lake, so you do get that nature feel alongside all the facilities.
First impressions are impressive. Everything is very organised, clean and structured. The site is massive, but it’s laid out in different areas with mobile homes and a central hub of facilities. There’s a sandy lake beach, indoor tropical-style pool complex, playgrounds, sports areas, mini golf and a full entertainment programme, so you really don’t need to leave the site if you don’t want to.
For families, especially with younger kids, it’s a very easy holiday. There’s always something going on and the facilities are genuinely extensive, which is why it gets so many awards and repeat visitors.
That said, it definitely isn’t perfect, and this is where opinions really split.
One of the biggest downsides is the sheer size of the place. It can feel overwhelming, and depending on where your mobile home is, it might be a long walk from the pool, lake or reception, which isn’t ideal with small children or in bad weather.
Another common complaint is cost creep. While the Eurocamp price might look reasonable, a lot of things are extra — swimming sessions, some indoor play areas, and certain activities. This can quickly add up and isnt always clear when booking.
The lake is also a mixed point. It looks great and is fun for kids, but in peak season it can get very busy and a bit murky, with some visitors questioning water quality at times during hot weather.
WiFi and mobile signal can be very poor, which can be frustrating given how large and modern the site otherwise is.
Our honest verdict: Südsee-Camp is a classic “big German holiday resort campsite” — absolutely brilliant if you want non-stop activities, entertainment and a safe, structured environment for kids. But if you prefer smaller, quieter, more natural campsites or you don’t like paying extra for lots of add-ons, it can feel a bit busy, expensive and overwhelming in places.
