Overview

Set in a beautiful woodland location, Gitzenweiler Hof is an award-winning park in Bavaria, perfect for families looking for a relaxed yet activity-filled holiday. With a scenic lake nearby, it’s an ideal spot for walking, exploring, and enjoying the natural surroundings.

Younger children can enjoy the farm, bio garden, and organised activities, while older kids and teens can make use of sports facilities such as basketball and football. The park has a warm Bavarian atmosphere and a welcoming feel from the moment you arrive.

When it’s time to eat, enjoy traditional Bavarian dishes at the on-site restaurant or grab a relaxed meal at the pizzeria.

If you want to explore further, the surrounding region offers vineyards, boat trips, and easy day excursions into Austria and Switzerland.

What it’s really like

Gitzenweiler Hof sits near Lake Constance, it’s a big, lively German holiday campsite that feels very geared towards families and longer stays rather than short stopovers. It has that classic “well-run but busy” camping resort vibe, where there’s always something going on and a strong focus on entertainment and activities.

The first thing you notice is the size of the place. It’s quite large, but it’s laid out in a structured way and feels tidy and well managed. Facilities are solid — there’s a pool, restaurant, shop, playgrounds and regular entertainment, especially in peak season. It definitely has more of a holiday park feel than a quiet campsite.

Location-wise, it’s a strong base. Close to Lake Constance, Lindau is nearby, and there are loads of day trips into Germany, Austria and Switzerland. That cross-border location is a big plus, especially if you like exploring rather than just staying on site.

On the downside, it can be quite busy and a bit noisy in high season. Some areas are more tightly packed than others, so privacy can vary depending on your mobile home position. Some parts of the facilities, while clean and functional, feel a bit dated compared with newer European resorts. It’s also not a particularly peaceful site — evenings can be lively, and there’s a definite family entertainment focus rather than relaxation.

Our honest verdict: Gitzenweiler Hof is a very good choice if you want a well-equipped, activity-heavy campsite in a brilliant location for exploring Lake Constance. It’s ideal for families and people who like a social, energetic atmosphere. If you’re after peace, space and quiet nature camping, it probably won’t be the right fit.
