Overview

A peaceful countryside campsite in Belgium surrounded by rolling green hills and woodland, offering a relaxed nature-based holiday experience.

What it’s really like

it’s a decent family campsite, but it definitely has a mix of really good points and a few things that stop it feeling like a top-tier holiday park.

The first thing you notice is the setting. It’s in a very green, hilly part of southern Belgium with forests all around, so it has a peaceful, natural feel. It’s the kind of place where you go more for the surroundings and outdoor time than for anything flashy on-site.

Facilities are fairly solid. There’s a swimming pool, playgrounds, sports areas and entertainment in peak season, so families with kids are well catered for. The staff are friendly and helpful and it’s a good-value, relaxed campsite with a nice atmosphere overall.

That said, there are some clear downsides depending on when you visit. In busy periods it can feel a bit chaotic, especially around the pool and entertainment areas. Some guests have also pointed out that parts of the campsite feel a bit dated and not everything is perfectly maintained at all times.

Another recurring criticism is the facilities not always matching expectations, things like cleanliness being inconsistent during peak season. Noise can also be an issue late at night when the site is full, which takes away from the β€œpeaceful nature” vibe it aims for.

There are also a few practical negatives: the on-site shop and restaurant options are quite limited, so you often end up going off-site for more variety. And while the location is lovely, it’s quite rural, so you do need a car to really explore the area properly.

Our honest verdict: La Colline is a good, straightforward family campsite in a really nice part of Belgium. It works best if you want nature, space and a relaxed base for walking or exploring the Ardennes-style countryside. But if you’re expecting a modern, highly polished resort with flawless facilities and loads of dining options, it can feel a bit basic and uneven in places.
