- Region: Black Forest

- Accommodation: Mobile Homes

Overview
Ever explored the Black Forest, visited the world’s largest cuckoo clock, or followed a scenic wine route through Germany’s countryside?
Campingplatz Herbolzheim offers a great base to experience it all. Set among rolling hills, deep valleys, and nearby lakes, this small and authentic park is ideal for walking and cycling holidays.
For thrill-seekers, Europa-Park is just a short distance away, packed with roller coasters and attractions, while the nearby Rulantica indoor water park offers a full day of family fun.
Back on park, the atmosphere is peaceful and relaxed, with terraced grassy pitches overlooking the Black Forest. Guests also have access to a nearby heated pool complex opening in early May (small entrance fee applies).
The nearby town of Herbolzheim is within easy walking or bus distance, offering charming streets, cafés, and local shops to explore at a slower pace.
What it’s really like
Campingplatz Herbolzheim is a really well-run campsite that works best as a base for exploring rather than a destination in itself. It’s located just outside the small town of Herbolzheim, close to Europa Park and within easy reach of Freiburg and the wider Black Forest region, so the location is honestly one of its biggest strengths.
First impressions were good — it’s clean, organised and feels quite peaceful, everything is kept tidy. The facilities are generally modern and very clean It has that calm, slightly “efficient German campsite” feel rather than a lively holiday park atmosphere.
The location really is the best thing about this site, you’re close to a lot of day trips — Europa Park is a big one for families, but you can also get into the Black Forest easily for walks, cycling and scenic drives. A lot of visitors use it exactly like that: a comfortable base to explore the region rather than staying on-site all day.
There are a few downsides, the campsite itself is fairly basic in terms of entertainment — there’s no big pool complex or loads of activities, so if you’re expecting a full holiday resort vibe, it might feel a bit quiet, the restaurant or on-site food options can be limited or not always open depending on staffing or season. Another thing to be aware of is that certain mobile homes can feel a bit close together or slightly sloped, so not every spot has the same level of comfort or privacy.
However, it’s generally quiet, but because it’s near roads and a busy region, you can occasionally notice traffic depending on where you’re mobile home is sited.
Our honest verdict: Campingplatz Herbolzheim is a clean and well-located campsite that’s perfect for sightseeing, Europa Park trips and exploring the Black Forest. It’s not a “holiday resort” campsite with loads going on, and some facilities are fairly basic, but if you want a practical, comfortable base in a great location, it does the job really well.
